When terminating an employee, it’s important to ensure the reasons are job-related, well-documented and consistent, says McAfee & Taft associate Suzanne Kern on the firm’s EmployerLINC blog.

Kern discusses an Oklahoma City federal district court decision in which there were inconsistent reasons given for an employee’s firing. Plaintiff Vicki Glasco, an Advanced Dental Implant & Denture Center human resources manager, filed a retaliation suit in connection with her January 2012 termination, alleging her firing was because she actively opposed racial discrimination.
