Most general counsel know they add plenty of value to the businesses they serve. Now it looks like their colleagues outside the law department are catching on. Whether it’s through becoming a larger part of the executive team or having a seat on boards of directors, according to a new survey, general counsel are getting more credit and bigger roles to play.

The survey, “GCs in the Boardroom and Beyond,” was put together by NYSE Governance Services and Barker Gilmore, an executive search firm specializing in general counsel, chief compliance officer and board member recruiting. Bob Barker, a managing partner of Barker Gilmore, told CorpCounsel.com that in the course of interacting with clients, he has seen general counsel getting more clout within their organizations.
