It wasn’t its best bid. Internet auction giant eBay Inc.’s handling of its recent data breach was the perfect lesson in what not to do, according to Wired’s Andy Greenberg.

“EBay’s mistakes include taking days to post a notice about the breach on eBay.com and confusing users as to whether their PayPal accounts had also been affected,” Greenberg said. The company initially posted the leak on its corporate website, ebayinc.com, Greenberg reports, and didn’t mention it on the eBay.com site until days later.
