Cooley partner Jonathan Hart is putting on the headphones and checking his mic levels. National Public Radio, the nonprofit media organization with hundreds of member stations across the U.S., announced Wednesday that Hart will be joining the company as its new chief legal officer and general counsel, starting July 1.

Hart is in Cooley’s technology transactions practice group. He has plenty of experience in media and Internet law to bring with him to NPR, an organization that has taken steps to move from a focus on broadcast radio to a multimedia and digital presence. “Jonathan Hart has the rare combination of legal and leadership skills and experience that this challenging role demands,” Paul Haaga, NPR’s acting president and CEO, said in a statement. “Over his three decades in law, he has specialized in representing a wide variety of media and technology clients—from websites, mobile applications and digital publishers, to radio and television stations—on a broad range of matters.”
