In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the American Red Cross has reportedly raised and spent more than $300 million. How was it used? The public might never know.

As ProPublica reporter Justin Elliott explains, the charity has hired Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher to fight a request to obtain details, arguing the information related to its Sandy activities is a “trade secret.”
