Online grocer FreshDirect Inc. makes a mission out of saving customers time and energy by shipping fresh food right to their home or office. Now the Long Island City, N.Y.-based company, which serves customers in the tri-state area and other parts of the Northeast, will have a new in-house legal leader helping it grow. Michael Brizel, most recently general counsel at Saks Inc., has joined FreshDirect as general counsel.
Brizel, who started work in June at FreshDirect’s headquarters, told CorpCounsel.com that he’s excited to be joining the company at such an important time for both FreshDirect and the grocery industry as a whole. He said that opportunities are expanding as the Internet changes the way people think about getting the food they want, when they want it. “They want to have it delivered, and they really aren’t interested in going up and down a traditional supermarket aisle,” he said. “We are right smack in the middle of what I would call a fast-paced revolution going on this industry.”
