After the dramatic ending to last season’s NFC championship game, the helmet-to-helmet tension between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks is already high. Wednesday’s announcement that the Seahawks have selected Ed Goines, a former 49ers GC and vice president of business affairs, to be their next general counsel and vice president of government affairs probably won’t lighten the rivalry.

The position also will require Goines to advise First & Goal Inc., the company that oversees Qwest Field. The stadium is home to both the Seahawks and Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders.
