It’s difficult to overstate the importance of exemplary ethics for in-house attorneys. The high level of scrutiny from both the public and regulatory authorities makes it essential that corporate counsel steer their companies toward the most ethical decision-making and complaint practices.

In the recent announcement of its 2014 Attorneys Who Matter list, the Ethisphere Institute identified outstandingly ethical attorneys in several categories, including in-house groups “General Counsel” and “Ethics and Compliance.” Ethisphere, a think tank dedicated to research on business ethics and corporate responsibility, singled out 14 general counsel and 22 corporate E&C leaders working in an array of industries for honors this year. According to Ethisphere, these lawyers beat out hundreds of nominees based on their expertise and experience, peer and client endorsements, and involvement in high-profile cases, as well as their public service, legal community engagement, academic involvements, and previous awards and recognitions.
