Coffee breaks, lunch breaks, and now smartphone breaks? Ingrid Ponce, a shareholder at Stearns Weaver, writes about a new study that says a little bit of Instagram during the workday may actually increase employee productivity and happiness.

“A smartphone microbreak can be beneficial for both the employee and the organization,” said Sooyeol Kim, a doctoral student in psychological sciences at Kansas State University who conducted the research. He went on to say that if an employee played a game for a full hour during the workday, it would obviously hamper productivity. But “if I take short breaks of one or two minutes throughout the day, it could provide me with refreshment to do my job,” Kim said.
