Tech companies engaged in content delivery will now have more help available for deterring the much-dreaded nonpracticing entities, a.k.a., patent trolls. Unified Patents Inc. is opening up another front—or in this case, “zone”—to help make it less appealing for trolls to make baseless patent-infringement claims against content delivery companies.

Unified—which counts Google Inc. and Corporate Counsel Best Legal Departments winner NetApp Inc. as members—is a startup that partners with companies of all sizes to deter patent trolls. This week it announced it had created a Content Delivery zone that will help 40 companies that produce technologies that involve transmitting and securing content to present a united front against NPEs. This is the second “zone” established by Unified—they already have a 20-member Cloud Storage zone.
