The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is asking stakeholders to submit written comments on a proposed rule that would require certain employers to keep electronic records of injury and illness, according to Tressi Cordara of Jackson Lewis. In addition, the rule would establish a searchable website with those records available to the public, she says. The rule was originally proposed last October.
Opponents of the change say it discourages employers from accurately reporting injuries, which is at odds with the current “no-fault” system, Cordara reports. Critics also worry a company could be labeled as “good” or “bad” based on this data, without more information or context.
