An activist law professor who considers the name of the Washington Redskins football team to be a racial slur said Tuesday he has filed legal opposition to the renewal of a broadcast license for the National Football League team’s owner.

Public interest law professor John Banzhaf III, of George Washington University Law School, said in a press release that he has filed a formal opposition with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The filing opposes the renewal of a broadcast license for station WWXX-FM, owned through Red Zebra Broadcasting by Daniel Snyder, who is also the owner of the NFL franchise.
