Contract drilling company Helmerich & Payne Inc. has announced the retirement of its long-standing general counsel, Steven Mackey, after 29 years in-house with the company. On March 4, 2015, Mackey will step down as executive vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer, and deputy general counsel Cara Hair will take over.

“Steve’s nearly 30 years of service has been both broad and influential,” said H&P Chairman Hans Helmerich in a statement. The company has benefited from the “strength and depth of his business and legal judgment and has been well-served by his integrity and leadership,” he said. Of Hair, Helmerich said she is “well-prepared to step into this important role.” She has been with H&P since 2006.
