It’s a serious power move for a Canadian GC: Jacques Lavoie will be heading to the Middle East to fill the newly appointed role of general counsel for the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp., according to a recent statement from Gowling Lafleur Henderson.
Previously, Lavoie was the senior general counsel at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and also spent time assisting with legislative and policy development at the International Atomic Energy Agency. During his career, he’s worked closely with the Nuclear Energy Agency and the International Nuclear Law Association, reports Gowlings. Market Watch says Lavoie did his undergraduate work at Simon Fraser University and studied law at the University of Sherbrooke. He was called to the bar in Quebec in 1991 and in British Columbia in 1999, according to the Canadian Law List.
