Much to the chagrin of some general counsel, it was a record year for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s enforcement lawyers, who pursued some first-ever cases.
The agency announced Thursday that in the fiscal year ending in September, it filed a record 755 enforcement actions and obtained orders for $4.16 billion in disgorgement and penalties.
