Are employees who reapply for jobs at their former companies good hires? That’s the question Sara Hutchins Jodka asks in a recent post on Porter Wright Morris & Arthur’s Employer Law Report. She tackles the issue by first analyzing why people would return to a company, and why recruiters are changing their tune about rehiring them: generational disparity; the economy; changing and expanding gender roles; and skill specialization.

Jodka reports that unlike their baby-booming parents, these “boomerang” employees are a younger generation of workers, and they simply don’t stay with a job for a lifetime. This is partially because of the nature of the economy, and because older employees are not leaving their positions.
