As former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Robert Mueller III was tasked with taking a major leadership role in the U.S.’s counterterrorism efforts after the 9/11 attacks. Now, he sees another threat growing alongside terrorism—that of cybercrime.

Speaking at the New York City Bar’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Law Institute, Mueller drew parallels between the types of operations used to battle terrorism and stop cybercrime. He also stressed the seriousness of cybersecurity threats, and offered some advice for attorneys trying to minimize cyberrisk and quell the damage when an attack does happen.
