Car tracking is the latest mobile-tech innovation that may have some major privacy concerns, according to Lauren Loew of Foley & Lardner in a recent blog post. As companies invest in vehicle monitoring and remote shutoff devices for corporate cars and trucks, and insurers remotely watch the mileage of vehicles for “pay-as-you-go” products, the data being gathered continues to expand in size and scope, says Loew.

“Companies should be aware of the increasing spotlight on privacy concerns with these devices in the U.S. and abroad,” she says. For instance, the American Civil Liberties Union is speaking up about the privacy implications of such technology as license-plate readers, GPS trackers and mobile phone location tracking.
