Brad Smith came to visit the other day. Smith is the general counsel of Microsoft Corp., and he occasionally drops in to chat, to critique our website, or, once, to receive our Best Legal Department award (when the prize was singular).
Smith is a sociable, intellectually curious kind of guy, and our lunchtime session covered a lot of topics, from diversity to data privacy to the mission of a general counsel. He serves as the chair of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, and he’s passionate about the issue. In fact, when he took to the stage a few years ago to accept our award, he took the time to criticize the profession for lackluster progress—and he echoed the same theme in our conference room.
