Verizon Communications Inc. didn’t have to look far to find its new general counsel. The New York-based communications and technology company announced in December that it was tapping Craig Silliman, previously its senior vice president for public policy, to run the legal department.

Silliman took the helm on Jan. 1, replacing Randal Milch, who had been in the position since October 2008. As general counsel, Silliman leads the company’s public policy, legal, regulatory, government affairs and securities groups; he also continues to serve as public policy chief. Milch is now strategic policy adviser to Lowell McAdam, Verizon’s chairman and chief executive.
