If your company’s law department hasn’t already taken responsibility for traveling employees and executives, it’s probably time. In a recent article in Law Times, Julius Melnitzer explains how kidnappings are a real concern for international travelers, and one that lawyers can help assess and prevent.

“The highest risks for foreigners, according to the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, are in the Eastern Hemisphere, mainly in Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Chechnya,” he says. But that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be sent to these countries. According to Riyaz Dattu of Osler Hoskin & Harcourt, travel risk often is unavoidable because going to emerging countries can be key to business needs.
