The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has eliminated a controversial and secretive program that arbitrarily singled out and delayed the issuance of certain patents.

The agency did not make a formal announcement but rather buried a post about the end of the program deep in its newly designed website—in a section about patent application initiatives. In the post, the agency acknowledged that the Sensitive Application Warning System (SAWS) was outdated and unhelpful.
