Unless you’ve been avoiding television, newspapers and the Internet this month, it has been hard not to hear at about “Deflategate,” an alleged plot by the New England Patriots staff members and the team’s star quarterback, Tom Brady, to deflate game footballs to a size that suited Brady, but violated National Football League standards. The accusations have been around since February’s Super Bowl. But the scandal got new air pumped into it with the release of a report from Theodore Wells Jr., a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison who led a team of lawyers hired to investigate the deflation claims.

The fallout from the Wells report has been decidedly negative for Brady and the Patriots, leading to a four-game suspension for the QB and a heavy fine for the team (as well the possibility of more legal fights downfield). Plenty of people, including the Patriots organization and their fans, are up in arms about the decision, while others are cheering it. Whichever side you’re on, some of the most entertaining parts of the report came from the text messages that Patriots locker-room employees exchanged (one employee refers to himself as “the deflator”).
