There’s plenty of conversation in the ethics and compliance world about “tone from the top.” Getting high-level executives to lead the charge toward a more ethical culture through messaging and setting a good example is an invaluable component of an E&C program, but the top of the organization is not the only place where it’s important to be mindful of the message. So let’s consider “tone from the middle.”

Middle management also can play a significant role in keeping a company’s employees focused on acting ethically. However, according to data collected by corporate culture and ethics advisory firm LRN, companies are not necessarily keeping middle management in the mix when building E&C programs.
