Hot tip of the day: if you want to implement a particularly bad employee policy at your company, try a “no pregnancy in the workplace” policy. Last month, a federal judge in Houston awarded almost $75,000 to a former employee of United Bible Fellowship Ministries for pregnancy discrimination, in a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against the Houston nonprofit.
In the case, United Bible fired the plaintiff because she became pregnant. The residential care center admitted she continued to do her job well and had no medical restrictions, but attempted to justify the firing as being a safety precaution, according to an EEOC press release.
