As the end of the latest U.S. Supreme Court term approaches, the nine justices hewed to tradition with several major rulings, including a much-anticipated opinion in King v. Burwell. The 6-3 ruling turned out to be a victory for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as the court upheld the law that provides subsidies for users of all state-run health insurance exchanges, regardless of whether these exchanges were set up by state or federal governments.

The ruling maintains the status quo for the ACA: individuals can still claim subsidies that will make health insurance more affordable, and many companies will still be held to the ACA’s mandate to provide affordable coverage.
