A novel interview technique to screen potential candidates has popped up in Silicon Valley, the hub of innovation and all things entrepreneurial. But according to Zosha Millman of LXBN, the process, which involves speaking with the interviewee’s family, may be innovating outside the bounds of the law.
ThoughtSpot, which describes itself as a “business intelligence” company, has taken to inviting a prospective employee’s partner to meet with CEO Ajeet Singh in the final round of interviews. “I want [spouses] to know that we’re not a company full of mercenaries that are going to bleed their families dry and not care about their life outside of work,” Singh told Business Insider. But while Millman notes Singh’s “heart seems to be in the right place,” she questions the legal standing of the practice.
