AstraZeneca
The legal department at pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca was good on offense and defense in 2014. It won a patent settlement antitrust trial in which the plaintiffs had sought billions in damages, and through aggressive case management strategies, it won dismissal of hundreds of product liability lawsuits, reducing the cases pending from more than 1,900 to fewer than 40.
