India’s economy is gaining momentum and Harish Suryavanshi, writing in the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Docket, suggests this growth will lead to the transformation of legal departments in the country. Companies there are dealing with multiple jurisdictions and international culture and transactions, meaning, “It is challenging and more difficult for India’s law department leaders to manage this highly diverse set of employees,” says Suryavanshi.

To hire and develop the right people for the job in India’s competitive market, brand reputation, workplace culture, credible leadership and meaningful work are all imperative. “It is also important to have a robust onboarding process so that the newly recruited in-house counsel quickly understands the team, clients, business environment, business expectations, services and products of the company,” he explains.
