There are suddenly a lot more drivers in California. According to Bill Lucia writing in Route Fifty, 452,000 people who did not need to prove they were in the country legally have been issued driver’s licenses.

It’s part of Assembly Bill 60, which went into effect at the beginning of the year and allows unauthorized immigrants to obtain California driver’s licenses without having to submit proof of legal presence in the United States, explains Lucia. They do, however, need to be state residents and prove identity, as well as meet standard licensing requirements.
