It’s no secret that this year has been full of huge news stories. From growth of the Black Lives Matter movement and the controversy over the Confederate flag, to the Obergefell v. Hodges decision legalizing gay marriage, to the seemingly eternal 2016 presidential election campaign, there has been a ton to talk about.
Unfortunately, when it comes to the workplace, opposing opinions on high-profile and deeply personal issues can raise tensions. And that can lead to all-out conflict, lower productivity and even a potential lawsuit. Given the stakes, in-house counsel should keep in mind that although their methods to quell potential conflict have to be compliant with the law, the solution may be more about building a culture of civility than about promulgating rules.
