When it comes to e-commerce, a “terms of use” agreement on your company’s site is paramount, says Darin Klemchuk in this recent blog post. It “serves as a contract between a website operator and a website user, essentially allowing the operator to set ground rules for the website’s use,” he explains. Here are some of Klemchuk’s tips for drafting an agreement that works:

To protect content: The agreement can spell out how customers can use the site and how they cannot, while also granting the site operators the ability to ban people at their discretion. Liability limitations and disclaimers are also useful for mitigating responsibility for errors in the site’s content.
