Will 2015 set a record for mergers and acquisitions? Based on the activity rate for the first nine months, 2015 could see total deal value reach an estimated $3.83 trillion, representing a 4.5 percent increase on 2007’s peak of $3.66 trillion, according to a new report by Mergermarket. In the year’s first three quarters, deals are 21.2 percent higher than at the same period in 2014.
According to Mergermarket, megadeals, which it calculates as being greater than $10 billion in value, are at an all-time high, representing 38 percent of global M&A action. Potential year-ending deals include Shire’s $30.6 billion offer for Baxalta and AB InBev’s estimated $102.2 billion bid for SABMiller, says the report.
