When John Callison became Vanderbilt University’s second in-house lawyer in 1974 right out of law school, his father, himself a university dean, told him that working for a university is fun and relatively secure, “but you’ll never get rich doing it.” And that’s true, Callison affirms.
“But there is a lot more to enjoying your professional career,” the lawyer adds in his rich Southern drawl. “And I would not trade what I did for the last 41 years for a lot more money. I have had a wonderful ride.”
