It could be coming soon to a database near you. A new rule requiring the electronic tracking of employers’ injury and illness records, that is. David Smith of Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete outlines the latest effort by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in this recent blog post.

“As initially proposed in November 2013, the new rule would require larger establishments to submit their OSHA 300 Logs, 301 Incident Reports, and 300A Annual Summaries to OSHA through a website that would allow for public access to that information,” explains Smith. It would apply to workplaces with at least 250 employees at any time in the year. Currently, Smith says OSHA only has access to that information during on-site inspections.
