Blowing the whistle on a company can be very intimidating, but that hasn’t stopped plenty of workers from taking complaints to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration. The number of whistleblower complaints filed to OSHA, which handles claims beyond everyday workplace safety, grew significantly in fiscal year 2015.

The increase is part of a long-term upward trend for OSHA whistleblowing, and should put employers on alert. They may need to step up their game in order to ensure that workers are not retaliated against for speaking out, and therefore have no reason to call on OSHA.
