It’s holiday time, and if you’re in the retail business, it might be the most wonderful time of the year. Shoppers are filling the aisles and browsing online in hopes of finding the perfect gifts. Unfortunately, this time of year is also a favorite of hackers looking to access the troves of data retailers collect. Just ask Target Corp., which is still resolving legal problems stemming from a 2013 holiday season breach.

According to a recent survey from Bay Dynamics, a cybersecurity firm that specializes in predictive analytics, many retailers aren’t doing all they can to mitigate the chances of getting breached this holiday season. A large part of the security problem involves the temp workers that retailers hire to deal with the holiday rush.
