The debate about raising the federal minimum wage, currently set at $7.25 an hour unless federal contractors are involved, continues to be divisive and politically charged. With little evidence that the national minimum wage will increase anytime soon, many states and municipalities have taken matters into their own hands.
Several state and local governments are raising the minimum wage starting in 2016. Companies with operations in these areas should take note of the new requirements, especially because not all of them will involve simple pay raises across the board.
