The legal fallout could just be beginning for Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. and Blue Bell Creameries, two food companies under fire for selling contaminated products and sickening customers. Now that the U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed that it’s investigating both companies, lawyers say there is a very real possibility of individual executives facing criminal charges.
Hundreds have fallen ill from norovirus and E. coli found in Denver-based Chipotle’s Mexican food. Listeria in Brenham, Texas-based Blue Bell’s ice cream also got consumers sick, leading to three deaths.
