The general counsel of Tesla Motors Inc., Todd Maron, defended the electric car company’s business model and lashed out at critics during a forum held by the Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
The FTC hosted the forum, “Auto Distribution: Current Issues and Future Trends,” to explore competition issues raised by state laws regulating motor vehicle sales. Maron frequently squared off against another panelist, Peter Welch, president of the National Automobile Dealers Association, a group that has criticized Tesla’s business model of selling directly to consumers.
