China’s trademark filings grew at a staggering rate in 2014, while the overall pace of new trademark activity in both established and developing economies slowed across the rest of the world, according to a newly released report.

Thomson CompuMark, a Thomson Reuters company, reported that China registered 1.7 million new trademarks in 2014, an increase of 71 percent from the previous year. Among the top 10 trademark registries in the world, however, just seven saw year-over-year increases in overall trademark volume in 2014. This followed a period of broad-based growth. The other three countries saw sizable declines.
