With the end of China’s one-child policy late last year, there could be a jump in pregnant or nursing employees come springtime. In a recent blog post, Grace Yang of Seattle’s Harris & Moure reviewed some of China’s laws on pregnant and nursing employees. Here’s what to expect when your staff is expecting … in China:

Unilateral termination without cause. It’s difficult to fire a pregnant or nursing employee in China, warns Yang. Termination is permissible only in limited circumstances, such as when the employee materially breaches the employer’s rules, causes substantial damage by committing a serious dereliction of duty, or has criminal liability imposed against her.
