Months after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency revealed that the company was cheating on emissions testing, embattled carmaker Volkswagen AG has replaced David Geanacopoulos, its head of U.S. legal, with former Clifford Chance attorney David Detweiler.

Geanacopoulos, who also oversees public and government affairs for Volkswagen of America Group Inc., will drop the legal side of his title to fill a brand-new role: senior executive vice president for public affairs and public policy, according to an announcement from Volkswagen this afternoon.
