Lynn Barrett, general counsel of the North Broward Hospital District in Fort Lauderdale, is caught in a legal firestorm involving the alleged suicide of her boss, allegations of hospital corruption, and accusations that she is withholding evidence from government investigators.

Barrett, who did not return messages seeking comment, has been GC at the nation’s 10th largest hospital system for less than a year. Before joining the public hospital system, which markets itself under the brand name “Broward Health,” she was chief ethics and compliance officer at Jackson Health System in Miami, and worked in the law firms Roetzel & Andress and Jones Walker, according to board minutes when she was hired last July.
