Bad news: A new survey suggests it may be only a matter of time before hackers get hold of your customer payment data.

The Global Study on the State of Payment Data Security, conducted by research firm Ponemon Institute on behalf of security company Gemalto, said 54 percent of companies have already had a security or data breach involving payment data an average of four times in the past two years. Four times! And only 4 percent of the 3,773 IT professionals interviewed said their company’s payment data had never been breached.
