When confronted with high-profile litigation, companies often take a conservative approach to media relations. But many in-house lawyers want to be more proactive, according to a recent survey conducted by the PR firm Greentarget.

For the report, released on Tuesday, Greentarget asked 73 in-house lawyers if they agree with the following statement: “My organization tends to act more conservatively than necessary when communicating externally during high-profile litigation.” Greentarget says that 58 percent of respondents agreed with the statement. Only 18 percent disagreed. Another 29 percent said they were neutral.
