A U.K. company recently made headlines by announcing a “period policy” that allows women to take paid time off if they have menstrual cramps or other period-related pain. “We wanted a policy in place which recognizes and allows women to take time for their body’s natural cycle without putting this under the label of illness,” the director of the company, which has a staff that’s 80 percent women, told the Daily Mail.

Is this progress? One employment lawyer in the U.S. isn’t so sure.
