The issue of pay equity is getting lots of attention, so an employee may well ask about your company’s stance. There’s lot of legal issues at play here, so having a strategy for answering such questions is a good idea, according to a blog post from Kristina Launey and Christine Hendrickson of Seyfarth Shaw.

By all means you can let employees know that “the company is committed to treating all employees–regardless of gender, race, or any other status–fairly in all aspects of their employment, including benefits and pay,” Launey and Hendrickson write. A good starting point when an employee asks if men and women are being paid equally is to direct him or her to the equal employment opportunity officer and company policies about discrimination.
