Ally Financial Inc. has a new general counsel behind the wheel. The Detroit-based bank holding company previously known as GMAC Inc., the former financing arm of General Motors Co., appointed Scott Stengel as GC, effective May 31, according to a recent statement. Current GC William Solomon Jr. is set to retire this September after 27 years with the company.
Stengel comes to Ally from UMB Financial Corp., where he served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. According to his LinkedIn profile, before UMB he worked in private practice as a partner at King & Spalding and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. He holds both a bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Notre Dame.
