As the world takes note of the Zika virus, employers must too. On April 22, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration released interim guidance for protecting workers from occupational exposure to the virus. Here are some of the agency’s tips:

Outdoor workers: OSHA recommends informing the workers about possible exposure of Zika through mosquito bites and providing them with insect repellant. It’s also a good idea to encourage workers to wear clothing that covers their exposed skin and to get rid of any sources of standing water that could attract mosquitoes. Also consider moving indoors workers who indicate they are planning to get pregnant or have a partner trying to get pregnant.
